SwanIT renewed the Equestrian School's equipment base responsibly and intelligently

SwanIT began cooperating with the Equestrian School in spring 2024. In the first phase of our collaboration, we set out to renew the Equestrian School's equipment base, offering a smarter and more responsibly produced equipment service model and equipment.
Located in Finland's most famous horse farm, Ypäjä, the Equestrian School is a vocational school that trains future horse professionals. It is the largest educational institution in the Nordic countries that provides equine education, with approximately 250 students annually and room for as many as 400 horses in the stables.
The Equestrian School is an operator in the natural resources sector, so environmental and climate awareness and responsibility are naturally very important issues.
Timo Ilomäki, a systems expert at the Equestrian School, has been pleased with the co-operation. He considers SwanIT's responsibility activities to be of paramount importance.
When we at the equestrian institute purchase IT equipment, we naturally consider how that responsibility will be implemented there. There are no devices with the Swan label and no one in Finland manufactures computers. So the equipment supplier we choose must be responsible itself,
Ilomäki describes.
I receive weekly contacts from IT suppliers, but SwanIT stood out from this crowd in that Juhani Heinonen said right from the start that it was a responsible operation. SwanIT understood right from the start to consider how the equestrian institute’s climate and environmental issues would be taken into account. The collaboration has started off well and contact with Juhani has been continuous,
Ilomäki continues.
Collaboration works – and eyes are on the future
According to SwanIT's Sales Director Juhani Heinonen, cooperation with the Equestrian School has been uncomplicated, open, and pleasant from day one.
In our model, we have really thought through the circular economy process from start to finish. And in addition to this, the devices can be used for as long as they work for the customer - not tied to a calendar.
In the early stages of our cooperation, we renewed a few of the Equestrian School's devices that required replacement due to their condition and life cycle. The Equestrian School typically uses devices for a long time, and these are replaced when their condition no longer serves their intended purpose.
For this reason, traditional leasing models tied to a calendar period were not the optimal option for the Equestrian School, but a more flexible model was needed. In addition, environmental values and responsibility are at the heart of the Equestrian School, so the management of the devices' lifecycle must be transparent and implemented as responsibly as possible.
Based on these needs, we quickly found common ground with Timo and were able to implement a comprehensive equipment service model in accordance with the true circular economy principle. In practice, this means that the Equestrian School can use the equipment flexibly and cost-effectively as long as it works,
Heinonen says.
The collaboration with Timo and the Equestrian School has gotten off to a great start and will certainly continue for a long time to come.
We have had a really good and open dialogue with Timo. We also have a clear vision of where we are going next. We are at the beginning now and this is where things will only get better.
Responsibility is reflected in our service model, among other things
In the beginning: We recommend devices that are as environmentally friendly as possible.
During the service: Monitoring of the condition of the equipment, as well as up-to-date information on emissions and energy consumption available in our customer portal. We offer flexible pricing: no forced returns after a certain calendar period, but the opportunity to use the equipment cost-effectively as long as it works. Equipment is purchased based on real need, which avoids unnecessary equipment purchases and saves costs.
At the end of the service: The customer is always informed about what happens to the equipment when it is returned to us. If the equipment is reused, it will always eventually be returned to us for material recycling.
Recycling to the material level: We disassemble the equipment and strive to utilize all possible materials for reuse when the equipment is at the end of its life. The customer receives a material report for the recycled equipment batch, which shows in more detail what materials and how much have been recovered.
